Twenty-five Years Providing Mental Health Services

Clinical Services Offered

I offer individual and couples psychotherapy with adults.  I also offer individual and family psychotherapy with adolescents.

  • When I work with an individual in therapy I begin by obtaining a clear understanding of your concerns and goals.  Each person’s therapy is unique because each person is unique.  I see the process of change as a collaborative effort between the client and the therapist.

  • My approach to couples therapy involves a formal assessment of your relationship.  Through joint and individual sessions, and the completion of questionnaires and assessment materials, I gather information on the strengths, difficulties and areas of needed improvement.  I provide a detailed feedback session with specific treatment recommendations before treatment is begun.  I am listed with the National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists (www.marriagefriendlytherapists.com).  This resource is a listing of therapists who specialize in marriage and couples therapy that have met the highest standards of competency in this specialized area of psychotherapy.

I have worked in private practice in the Atlanta area since 1985.  I have been at my current office location in downtown Marietta since 2001.

I write a monthly article on mental health issues for the publication Our Town.  You can review current and past issues of this publication at www.ourtownmonthly.com.

My Philosophy

I believe in the wisdom each of us possesses.  I see a therapist, not as an all knowing expert to provide answers, but rather as a collaborator who assists in the process of change and growth by functioning as a coach, a facilitator, a cheerleader, and a provider of accountability.  Because it is impossible to have objectivity about our own lives, a therapist can provide a clearer view of where you are “getting stuck” and offer an alternative perspective of how to make changes so that life is improved.

Research has shown that the most important predictor of therapy success is a good working relationship between clients and therapist.  Since therapy involves a large commitment of time, money and energy, we need to work together to establish good teamwork.

In addition to the training and experience of a therapist, it is important to find someone with whom you feel comfortable and understood.  I welcome an opportunity to discuss your thoughts or questions to see if I am the right person to assist you with your concerns.  If you don’t feel I am the right person, I will assist you in finding a “better fit” so you can reach your goals.
